Comparison

             by Helen Chen 21'

During adolescence, I started to compare myself with the people around me. This comparison, which soon became a subconscious act in my daily life, once significantly undermined my self-confidence. I couldn't help but always capture things that others can do better than me in; the more I observe about my peers, the less confident I felt.

In this story, I wanted to show that we are not defined by what we are not good at. The number on the body scale, the grade for a math test, the time you take to finish a race... There is always something that we think we can't excell others at. But in order to make ourselves happy, why not try to find our own sparkles? It might sound cliche, but embracing imperfectness is actually the best way to move on.
